จากข้อมูลพบว่า พื้นที่กรุงเทพฯ มีแนวป้องกันน้ำท่วมความยาวประมาณ 87.93 กม. โดยเป็นแนวป้องกันน้ำท่วมของ กทม.ที่ก่อสร้างโดยสำนักการระบายน้ำ ความยาวประมาณ 79.63 กม. และส่วนที่เหลือคือแนวป้องกันตนเองของภาคเอกชน ที่ผ่านมาพบว่าปัญหาน้ำท่วมขังและเอ่อล้นสูงจากแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา เกิดจากสาเหตุทั้งน้ำเหนือและน้ำทะเลหนุนพร้อมกัน ซึ่งแนวฟันหลอของเขื่อนเอกชนไม่มีความแข็งแรงทนทานและป้องกันน้ำท่วมได้ 

กทม.ต้องดำเนินการปรับปรุงแก้ไข และก่อสร้างอุดเขื่อนฟันหลอ เพื่อเสริมระบบป้องกันน้ำท่วมริมแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา (เขื่อนป้องกันน้ำท่วม) และแนวป้องกันน้ำท่วมริมคลอง

According to research data, there is a total length of 87.93 kilometers of floodwalls in Bangkok metropolitan area in total, which can be broken down into 79.63 kilometers built by Department of Drainage and Sewerage, and the rest constructed by private sector. Until now, it is found that floods along the Chao Phraya River usually result from runoffs from the North coinciding with the rise in sea level, adding up to volumes of water against which private floodwalls are not strong enough to hold.

The BMA needs to repair and reconstruct the broken floodwalls to reinforce flood prevention systems along major waterways.
